localonly has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. Nothing you record, write, or say is sent anywhere. This applies to the Mac app, the iPhone app, and localonly.io itself.
Recordings, transcripts, notes, and summaries are stored locally on your Mac. Transcription runs on-device with whisper.cpp. Summaries are generated on-device with Ollama, running locally on your machine. None of this ever leaves your computer, and localonly has no server to send it to even if it wanted to.
Microphone access is used only to record audio for local transcription. The Whisper model (~142 MB) is downloaded once on first launch, directly from its host, to run transcription on-device.
Deleting the app, or deleting a note inside it, deletes that data. There is no other copy anywhere.
The iPhone app works the same way as the Mac app: everything stays on your phone. Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. Summaries use Apple Intelligence, on-device. Apple Calendar access is local only, via EventKit. Google Calendar is optional: if you connect it, your phone talks directly to Google's API with your own credentials, read-only, and calendar data is used only to show meeting context and stays on your phone.
Purchases go through Stripe. When you buy localonly, your payment details (card number, billing info) are entered directly into Stripe's checkout and never touch localonly's own systems. localonly doesn't store your card details.
To generate your download link, a small Cloudflare Worker verifies your payment with Stripe and issues a short-lived, one-time link to the installer, hosted in a private file store. That verification step doesn't create an account or store a profile about you. Stripe retains standard transaction records (email, purchase amount, date) as needed for receipts, fraud prevention, and tax records, under Stripe's own privacy policy.
This website has no analytics, no tracking pixels, and no third-party scripts that watch what you do here. It's served through Cloudflare, which sees standard connection metadata (like IP address) as part of routing any web traffic, and which we don't access or use for tracking. If you email an @localonly.io address, that message reaches us like any other email and is used only to respond to you.
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
